KABA RAFA Farm School began with the vision of Sarah Stevens and Kevin Osborn, who previously played a key role in developing a farm in Santa Rosa, California. When that property was eventually sold, and they were unable to purchase it, Sarah and Kevin decided to start anew—this time with a long-term vision to create a space rooted in education, sustainability, and personal growth.
In June 2024, they acquired 70 acres in Potter Valley, California, where they established an educational farm school named Kaba, an ancient Egyptian word meaning harmony. Their mission: to help individuals reconnect with the natural world and discover personal balance through immersive, hands-on experiences with the land. Under the official organization name KABA RAFA (Kaba Ranch and Farm Apprenticeship Program Inc.), Sarah and Kevin now lead a growing initiative supported by over five decades of combined experience in farming, land stewardship, and education.
In a significant step forward, Aisha Arif joined the team to lead marketing and communications. With a personal interest in learning farming and ranching practices, Aisha is committed to integrating principles of natural living into both her professional journey and her family life. Together, the KABA RAFA team is building a space where people can learn, grow, and live in greater harmony with the Earth.
As part of KABA RAFA’s ongoing commitment to creating a sustainable, educational, and inclusive environment, we are embarking on the development of a multipurpose barn that will serve as a central hub for both our operational needs and community engagement efforts. This project reflects our mission to empower individuals through hands-on learning, therapeutic experiences, and agricultural education.
A Barn Designed for Education
The new barn will feature a fully equipped workshop to support ongoing ranch maintenance and equipment repair—critical for the smooth functioning of daily operations. A designated hay storage area will ensure we are well-prepared to care for our animals year-round, especially through the demands of winter. To support KABA RAFA’s educational and therapeutic initiatives, the barn will also include horse stalls designed for safety and accessibility, providing a nurturing space for participants in our equine programs. Additionally, the barn will feature a welcoming community gathering space overlooking the front gate—offering a place for apprentices, volunteers, families, and visitors to connect, reflect, and build meaningful relationships.
This infrastructure project is a foundational step in strengthening KABA RAFA’s capacity to serve, teach, and heal—ensuring we continue to grow as a place of learning, purpose, and community.
